It's Monty the Penguin Mania: John Lewis sells out of stuffed penguins in hours (but still has over 40 different types of merchandise left)

John Lewis has sold out of 'Monty the Penguin' soft toys, just hours after its 130 second advert starring the penguin aired for the first time.

In an unprecedented move, John Lewis had created over 40 different types of merchandise linking to Monty the Penguin - solely based on its Christmas TV advert - with products from slippers and face cloths to cushions and umbrellas. Monty the penguin has been created entirely for the advert.

And amateur business men and women, looking for some quick cash ahead of the festive season, have immediately taken to eBay, where they have been selling the merchandise for hundreds of pounds - in addition to creating their own magnets, and selling similiar products saying 'like Monty' in the listing title.

Products are now selling for hundreds on eBay. 

Over 500 'Monty the Penguin' products have popped up in
just hours. 

It appears Monty Mania has taken flight!
