Simon Cowell sends the name 'Eric' soaring up the most popular names chart

Simon Cowell has created some of the most popular shows on television - Britain's Got Talent and The X Factor are just two.

And now, Simon has set a brand new trend...names. After Simon and partner Lauren named their son Eric, after Si's father, the name has seen a popularity boom!

That's according to BabyCentre, who said the name Eric's popularity had soared by 314% this year, following Simon's son being born.

Eric wasn't the only name to benefit from the power of celebrity...the name's of David Beckham's sons - Romeo and Cruz - are up 67% and 400% respectively, whilst the name of the Beckham's daughter Harper has entered the top 100 names of the year for the first time.

However, celebrity names weren't all successful...the name Miley fell in the rankings (we can't imagine why, that wrecking ball looked like great fun!)

So what are the most popular names overall? Well, for boys in the UK it's; Mohammed, Oliver and Jack making the top three, whilst for girls it's Sophia, Emily and Lily.
