Is Deadlock DEAD? Reports the X Factor feature is to be axed before the next series

The 'Deadlock' feature of The X Factor is being axed from the show, according to reports, with a fifth judge "definitely a possibility for next year".

Today's Sunday Mirror carries a report which quotes a show source as saying "Deadlock used to be an exciting element of the show - when the power was given back to the viewer. But now it's used almost every week". 

Deadlock occurs when the four judges are split 2-2 when deciding which artist to save in the sing-off. According to the Mirror, the vote has gone to deadlock four times this series.

One possible solution for the next season of X Factor is adding an additional judge - the source told the paper it's "definitely a possibility...another big personality would spice things up as well as making decisions much easier".
