Imagine the scene: You've just finished your Christmas dinner (turkey with all the trimmings), and the whole family is gathered around the television in the living room. It's 15.00, and so the Queen's Speech is about to be broadcast to the nation. Her Majesty clears her throat, the National Anthem is played and she announces that she is going to abdicate, leaving her son Prince Charles as King.

Forget Christmas, the World's media outlets would go into meltdown! Now, that scenario may seem like something straight from the pages of a fantasy novel, or from a TV show being shown on channel 5...but this is what COULD happen on Christmas Day this year. That's if betting statistics are to be believed!

According to today's Daily Mirror, there has been a "rush" of bets placed on the Queen abdicating in her speech. Coral is reported to have suspended bets, for which the odds were at 10/1.

Unsurprisingly, Royal sources told the newspaper the rumours are not true! Twitter users have taken the rumours another way - believing they have been started by TV bosses and the Palace in order to boost viewing figures of Her Majesties address to the nation...
