1 in 3 men feel lonely at Christmas, says new survey for the Samaritans

1 in 3 men feel lonely at Christmas, a new survey by the Samaritans has revealed, and 1 in 2 men feel sad or depressed over the festive season, according to the poll.

The shocking figures highlight the fact that, whilst Christmas is seen as a happy and merry time, millions of us suffer in silence.
30% of men said they felt stressed or anxious at Christmas.

Samaritan's found that 48% of men feel 'sad or depressed at Christmas time', 45% of men feel 'that other expect them to be happy at Christmas when they're not', and that 30% of men felt 'stressed or anxious at Christmas time'.

With the survey's figures showing 37% of men admit to feeling lonely at Christmas, the Samaritan's Chief Executive Catherine Johnstone said: "Many of our male callers have told us that Christmas is a tough time for them, which is why our inspirational volunteers will be available round the clock, for anyone who is struggling to cope, including on Christmas Day".
